Sunpak: The Complete Buyer's Guide
By Reed · Reviewed October 2026

The quick answer
Sunpak is building commercial-grade infrared gas patio heaters since 1995, long before the current patio-heater category exploded . Catalog depth: 19 configurations.
Who is Sunpak?
Sunpak has been building commercial-grade infrared gas patio heaters since 1995, long before the current patio-heater category exploded. Mounted + hard-wired, Sunpak heaters are the restaurant-tier install option: silent, no fan, no visible flame, pure radiant heat.
The core lineup is two BTU tiers: S25 (25,000 BTU for mid-size patios) and S34 (34,000 BTU for larger coverage), each available in natural gas or propane, in bronze or black finish. Simple, deliberate catalog.

What Sunpak prioritizes
Mounted + hard-wired
Install under eaves or on patio beams. Hard-wired to gas supply + 24V thermostat control. Permanent, not portable.
Silent radiant heat
No fan, no blower noise. Infrared radiant heat warms people + objects directly, not the air.
Commercial-grade reliability
Standard spec in high-end restaurant patios + resort cabanas. Field-serviceable burner cartridge.

When Sunpak is the wrong choice
Sunpak is engineered for buyers who prioritize build quality and longevity over upfront price. If you're buying a first grill under $1,500, or a fire feature for a rental property, or any use case where you expect to upgrade within three years, the premium Sunpak commands over mass-market alternatives won't earn back. The brand is at its best when the ownership horizon is 10+ years, when the install is permanent, and when matched components (vent hood, refrigeration, side burners) are part of the plan.
Sunpak — the questions buyers actually ask
What's the difference between the S25 and S34?
BTU output. S25 is 25,000 BTU, best for patios up to 150 sq ft. S34 is 34,000 BTU for 150-250 sq ft coverage. Both share the same mount pattern + wiring.
Does Sunpak need professional installation?
Yes — Sunpak heaters are hard-wired to a gas line + require 24V thermostat wiring. Licensed gas fitter + electrician handoff, not a DIY install.
Can one Sunpak run on both NG and LP?
No — each unit is factory-configured for either natural gas OR propane. Order the right fuel type at purchase; conversion kits are not supported.
