American Outdoor Grill — AOG — is the value line from R.H. Peterson Co., the California manufacturer that has built Fire Magic grills since 1937. Same factory, same 304 stainless firebox construction, same lifetime burner warranty. The AOG line launched in the early 2000s to bring R.H. Peterson build quality to buyers whose outdoor kitchen budget doesn't stretch to Fire Magic pricing.
The AOG lineup is deliberately simple. Two series (T Series and L Series), three sizes (24, 30, 36 inches), every model in both natural gas and liquid propane. T Series is the base grill — Diamond Sear cooking grids, tubular stainless burners, Flame Thrower ignition, analog thermometer. L Series adds interior halogen lights and integrated rotisserie hardware for about $400 more. That's the whole decision matrix.
Where AOG wins is the value-per-dollar of the R.H. Peterson build. A Fire Magic Aurora 30-inch runs $3,999; the equivalent AOG L Series 30-inch is $2,099. Half the price, same 304 stainless firebox, same lifetime burner warranty. The corners AOG cuts are cosmetic — single-walled hood, standard illuminated knobs vs Fire Magic's backlit, narrower warming rack — not structural. For 80% of outdoor kitchen builds, AOG is the right call at the grill line, and the savings go into the island, refrigeration, or a side burner.

Step up to 36-inch if you regularly entertain 8+ guests. Only go 24-inch if you have a specific space or budget constraint — the 30-inch is dramatically more versatile for a small price bump.

With normal use and a fitted cover: 15-20 years for the grill body, longer for the burners (lifetime warranty against burnout). The most common failure at year 10-15 is the ignition module, which is a $60 field-replaceable part. AOG grills are one of the longest-lifespan built-ins we service.
