Hestan Aspire 36 vs Hestan 36: Which Built-In Is Right for Your Kitchen?
By Reed · Published October 2026

Updated October 2026. Short answer: the Hestan 36 Deluxe is the flagship — welded 304 stainless with a heavier-gauge double-wall hood, the full 14-color finish palette, optional brass trim, standard infrared rotisserie, and an available infrared sear burner. The Aspire by Hestan 36 (EB36) is the value tier from the same Anaheim, California plant with the same 304 stainless welded body and the same 12-year warranty. Pick Aspire if you want Hestan build quality without the architectural statement. Pick the Hestan 36 Deluxe when the color-matched install is the whole point.
Why this comparison keeps landing in our inbox
We sell both lines at BBQs.com, which means we end up on the phone every week with a homeowner who has already narrowed the field down to Hestan. The question is almost always the same. The Hestan 36 is clearly beautiful, the finish palette is irresistible, and the double-wall hood looks like it belongs on a yacht. The Aspire by Hestan 36 is thousands of dollars less, carries the same parent-company warranty, and ships from the same California building. So which one is right?
The honest answer is that both are the right grill for different buyers. The Hestan Deluxe is a flagship. The Aspire is the smarter mid-tier buy. The decision is less about which cooks better (that is close) and more about where the money is going. This piece walks through the spec sheet row by row, the places the two lines diverge in the install, and who should pick which. All prices quoted are MSRP — Hestan and Aspire are MAP-protected brands and we do not discount either.
Who makes the Hestan 36 and the Aspire 36?
Hestan Commercial was founded by veterans of Viking Range. The team ported commercial-kitchen engineering into a residential outdoor line in 2014. Every Hestan outdoor grill — Deluxe and Aspire — is built in the same Anaheim, California plant on the same welded 304 stainless body line. The Aspire line launched in 2020 as a focused value tier: the same parent company, the same build DNA, a tighter catalog, and a price point several thousand dollars below the Deluxe.
What this means in practice: when a Hestan 36 and an Aspire 36 roll off the plant, they share the same marine-grade 304 welded firebox construction, the same U-burner architecture, the same ceramic infrared rotisserie technology, and the same 12-year warranty. The Deluxe adds the premium touches. The Aspire omits them to hit a different buyer.

Where the two lines are actually identical
This is the part the SERP competitors tend to blur. The Hestan 36 and the Aspire 36 are not two different grills with similar branding. They are two trim levels of the same architecture.
Both run three 25,000 BTU U-burners for 75,000 BTU on the main field. Both plate up 647 square inches of primary cook area on the DiamondCut grates. Both share the same cutout dimensions (35-1/4 by 23-1/4 by 10-3/4), the same gas inlet position, and the same four-rail trellis system for the warming shelf. Both ship with the dedicated infrared rotisserie burner (EBR36 on the Aspire side) and both carry the full 12-year all-inclusive outdoor warranty on burners, valves, ignition, and cosmetic panels.
In our test kitchen we have run the same ribeye cook on a Hestan GMBR36 and an Aspire EB36 side by side. On the main burners at 500 degrees, the sear temperature on the grate reads within 15 degrees of each other. On rotisserie chickens the air temperature at the bird reads inside the manufacturer tolerance. The cooking performance is engineered to the same target — because the cooking components are the same.
Where the Hestan 36 pulls ahead
The Deluxe is not just the Aspire with a nicer badge. There are real build and feature differences that justify the premium for the right buyer.
The double-wall insulated hood
The Hestan 36 Deluxe uses a double-wall hood with insulation between the layers. The Aspire uses a single-wall hood. In warm-weather searing at 650 degrees, the single-wall hood on the Aspire is slightly hotter to the touch and radiates more ambient heat into the surround. In cold-weather cooking at 20 degrees ambient, the double-wall hood on the Deluxe recovers temperature faster after you open and close it. If you cook year-round in a northern climate — and we have customers in Michigan and upstate New York who do — the double-wall hood is worth the delta on its own.
The infrared sear burner (GMBR36 variant)
The base Hestan GABR36 ships with the infrared rotisserie burner at the back of the firebox. The GMBR36 upgrade adds a dedicated infrared sear burner as one of the main cooking zones. That burner hits ceramic-plate temperatures north of 1,000 degrees, which is the delta between a seared ribeye crust and a grilled one. The Aspire EB36 does not offer this burner. If sear is how you cook, the GMBR36 is the version to buy.
The 14-color finish palette and brass trim
Hestan Deluxe ships in 14 signature colors — Bora Bora Blue, Grove Green, Pacific Fog, Steeletto, Tin Roof, Prince, Froth, and the rest — plus stainless, plus an optional brass trim upgrade on the knobs and badge. Aspire ships in a focused subset: Citra, Prince, Orion, and the Dark Bronze finish, plus stainless. For designers building an architectural outdoor kitchen that has to match the house, the Deluxe palette is the one that opens up specification freedom. For most backyard buyers, stainless or one of the Aspire signature colors is more than enough.
- •Three 25,000 BTU U-burners plus infrared sear and rotisserie
- •Double-wall insulated hood with halo-lit knob stack
- •14 signature-color finish palette, optional brass trim
- •12-year all-inclusive warranty
Where the Aspire 36 is the smarter buy
For most backyard outdoor kitchens, the Aspire EB36 is the grill we end up recommending. Here is the honest math.
The build is still a Hestan
Welded 304 stainless firebox. Same U-burner architecture. Same ceramic infrared rotisserie technology on the EBR36 variant. Same 12-year warranty. In the mid-tier price band ($6,000 to $7,500) the competition is a Lynx entry grill, a Coyote S-Series, or a Blaze Professional. None of them match the Aspire on parent-company build pedigree, and none of them match the warranty duration.
You keep the signature finish options
Aspire ships in Citra (a warm red), Prince (deep purple), Orion (dark navy), and the Dark Bronze finish, plus stainless. For a backyard that wants color without specifying from the full 14-color Deluxe palette, that catalog is deep enough. Loki priced out a Prince-finish Aspire EB36 for a customer in Scottsdale last month and the delivered color matched the house trim within a shade. That is the whole point.
The install footprint is identical
Because Aspire is dimensioned to the Hestan outdoor-kitchen spec, the Aspire EB36 cutout, gas drop, and clearance zone are the same as the Hestan Deluxe 36. If your builder has already poured a Hestan-spec island, an Aspire drops in with no changes. If you are starting fresh, the island built for an Aspire today is ready for a Deluxe swap in year 10 without re-cutting stone.
- •Three 25,000 BTU U-burners, welded 304 stainless firebox
- •Same Anaheim California plant and 12-year warranty as Deluxe
- •Signature color palette: Citra, Prince, Orion, Dark Bronze, stainless
- •Dimensioned to the Hestan outdoor-kitchen cutout spec
Does the Hestan 36 come as a freestanding grill?
Yes. If you are not building a full outdoor kitchen, the Hestan 36 freestanding on the Deluxe cart keeps the same cooking head and adds the double side burner, a stainless towel bar, and warming drawer storage underneath. MSRP starts at $17,199. The freestanding cart converts a Deluxe build into a rollable kitchen for a patio that is not getting a stone island.
Aspire also builds a stainless cart (ECD-cart) that the EB36 head drops onto. The combined price lands under the comparable Deluxe freestanding by several thousand dollars. For a renter or a short-term stay in the current house, the Aspire freestanding is the smarter buy. See our head-to-head on built-in versus freestanding economics for the full math.
Who should buy which?
Here is how we route a customer at BBQs.com.
Buy the Hestan 36 Deluxe (GMBR36) if: you want the dedicated infrared sear burner, you want the double-wall hood for year-round cooking, you want to specify from the 14-color palette (or add brass trim) to match an architectural install, you cook steak more than twice a week, or the home is forever and the grill needs to belong to the kitchen.
Buy the Hestan 36 (GABR36) if: you want the Deluxe build and the infrared rotisserie but your main-burner cooking is mostly chicken, burgers, veg, and smoked meats where the infrared sear is less useful. GABR36 saves a modest amount at MSRP against the GMBR36 and still carries every other Deluxe feature.
Buy the Aspire 36 (EB36) if: you want the Hestan parent-company build, the 12-year warranty, and the professional-grade cook at a price under $7,000. You do not need the double-wall hood, you are comfortable in the Aspire color palette, and you are happy spending the saved budget on counters, lighting, or the pizza oven next to the grill.

Pricing, lead times, and the install reality
Both Hestan Outdoor and Aspire by Hestan are MAP-protected lines. The price you see at MSRP is the price you see across every authorized dealer, and that is intentional — Hestan guards the brand positioning tightly. We do not run promotions on either line, we do not discount, and we do not run holiday sales. What we do is get the current factory lead time on the finish you want, confirm the gas inlet type (NG or LP), and get the install drawings into your builder's hands before you close on the island.
Lead times run six to fourteen weeks on both lines depending on finish selection. Stainless ships fastest. Premium colors — Bora Bora, Prince, Grove Green on the Deluxe side; Citra, Prince, Orion on the Aspire side — run longer in peak season. If you are building to a completion date, order at least twelve weeks in advance. We have customers who ordered a Grove Green Hestan 36 in April for an August pour and that was tight. For a full walk-through of the complete Hestan line including freestanding, side burners, refrigeration, and storage, see our Hestan Outdoor brand guide or the companion Aspire by Hestan brand guide.
The final call
The Hestan 36 Deluxe is the grill you buy when the kitchen is permanent and the color-matched install is the whole point. It is a flagship, priced like a flagship, and it looks like one for the next twenty years. The Aspire by Hestan 36 is the grill you buy when you want the Hestan parent-company build and the 12-year warranty at a price that leaves room in the budget for the rest of the kitchen. Both are the right answer. The question is which version of right you need.
