Hestan vs DCS: Two Premium Grills, Honestly Compared
Both made in California. Both heavy-gauge 304 stainless. Both lifetime burner warranties. So why is the Hestan often $1,500 more than the comparable DCS?
Hestan's signature is the Trellis Burner — a sealed cast brass burner with a patented diamond-cut diffuser plate above it. The result: dead-even heat across the entire surface, with no hot spots and no flame-out from drippings. DCS uses U-burners with ceramic radiant rods — different approach, similar end result, slightly less even.
Hestan grills sear hotter. The infrared sear station hits 1000°F+ surface temp; DCS infrared tops out around 800°F. For steakhouse-grade crust, Hestan has an edge.
DCS grills hold low better. The U-burner design plus the ceramic rod buffer is genuinely good at maintaining 225°F for low-and-slow. Hestan can do it; DCS does it more reliably.
Build quality: equally outstanding. Both companies use 304 stainless throughout, weld seams, and offer lifetime burner warranties. Both will outlast your patio.
Our take: Hestan is for the cook who wants the highest-end sear and the most consistent surface heat. DCS is for the cook who balances grilling with low-and-slow and wants the slight cost savings. Either is a 20-year purchase.
